The Alpha Chapter of Zeta Theta Omega does one philanthropy service project each semester. While not only raising

money for that semester's organization of choice members also raise awareness of the organization's mission. 

HEIFER INTERNATIONAL

Animal Donation

​​Fall 2013

Heifer International is a nonprofit working to eradicate poverty and hunger through sustainable, values-based holistic community development. Heifer distributes animals, along with agricultural and values-based training, to families in need around the world as a means of providing self-sufficiency.

 

Members of Zeta Theta Omega were able to raise enough money to donate rabbits, sheep, and flocks of ducks, chicks, and geese. These animals will help empower families and bring sustainable agriculture and income to impoverished communities.

WORLD WILDLIFE FUND

Global Tiger Day

​​Summer 2014

The World Wildlife Fund is an international non-governmental organization working on issues regarding the conservation, research and restoration of the environment. It is the world's largest independent conservation organization with over 5 million supporters worldwide, working in more than 100 countries.

 

Tiger numbers are at an all-time low, with as few as 3,200 tigers existing in the wild today. Money raised by members of ZTO help support WWF's global conservation work, to double the number of wild tigers by the year 2022.

DETROIT DOG RESCUE

Fundraising & Volunteering

​​Spring 2015

Detroit Dog Rescue's mission is to create a no-kill animal center in Detroit, MI. They are focused on raising awareness for the plight of the forgotten, homeless, and stray dogs of Detroit.

 

Members of ZTO spent the semester volunteering at animal shelters around the Lansing area. As a part of their philanthropy event, memebers of Zeta Theta Omega raised awareness about the amount of homeless dogs in the U.S. while also collecting donations for DDR.

Species Adoption

Spring 2014

ZTO Members raised enough money to adopt not one, but three animals. Tigers, Polar Bears, and Sea Turtles are all close to becoming critically endangered species. Our symbolic adoptions help to fund WWF's global conservation efforts.

ALLIANCE FOR THE GREAT LAKES

Beach Clean Up & Raising Awareness

​​Fall 2014

The Alliance for the Great Lakes mission is to conserve and restore the world's largest freshwater resource using policy, education and local efforts, ensuring a healthy Great Lakes and clean water for generations of people and wildlife.

 

Members of ZTO participated in a beach clean up through their Adopt-A-Beach program. Later in the semester members collected donations for AGL and raised the publics' awareness on issues with the Great Lakes and what they can do to protect them. Through their efforts ZTO was able to reach over 2,000 people on ways they can protect the Great Lakes.

 

SASHA Farm

SASHA Farm is the midwest's largest farm animal sanctuary. This shelter, not only provides food and water, veterinary care and a roof over their heads, they also give the animal residents affection, social interaction with others of their own species, and a sense of security.
